Mary Elizabeth McEwen, M.Ed CCC-SLP

Welcome, I’m so glad you’re here! I am a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist with 9 years of experience working with late talkers, Autistic children, complex communicators, apraxia and a variety of other speech and language related difficulties. I have worked in preschools, daycares, homes, schools and office settings.

Over the course of my career, and since having my own three children, I have slowly done a 180 in my philosophy of care. I was trained by the “medical model” of care which likes kids to fit into neat and tidy little diagnostic boxes. I ONLY looked at their speech and language opposed to taking into account their family circumstances, sensory needs, medical needs, sleep, attachment, trauma or the need for trust and connection. I now operate in a much more holistic manner and believe that a whole child and whole family approach is essential for growth.

I have received advanced trainings beyond graduate coursework in Gestalt Language Processing, AAC + Gestalt Language Processing, Kaufman Apraxia Training, SCERTS and AAC.

I am North Carolina licensed, and nationally certified (American Speech Language and Hearing Association). I graduated with honors from both the University of Georgia (undergrad) and Valdosta State University (graduate school, master’s degree).

I currently live in Cornelius with my husband, three children and Golden Retriever. I love spending time outside, gardening, hiking and playing with my kids. I can’t wait to connect!
